Welcome to Goodbudget 101: Budget Bootcamp! We’re so excited for you to start this new budgeting journey — one where you’ll create a budget that works for you. And along the way you’ll build habits and learn techniques that will help you live out your budget for the rest of your life.
Now, we’re all starting from different places financially, but we’re all working towards the same goal… making a budget that works. We believe you can make and *keep* a budget. This budget will be your guide to help you spend on what’s important, save for big expenses, and give generously.
Over the next 29 days you’ll receive bite-sized assignments that are practical, reflective and relational and they’re all designed to help you create your new budget utilizing the envelope budgeting method (if you don’t know what that is, learn about it on our website and on YouTube). You can expect to spend about 5 to 10 minutes doing most of the assignments. Every so often there’ll be a longer assignment that will take about 30 minutes. Let’s get started.
Today’s Assignment
- Make a plan for when and where you’d like to do these assignments. Will you spend time working on them at the kitchen table after the kids are in bed, or early in the morning over coffee before everyone gets up? Will you do the assignments for the week all in one day, or divvy them up throughout the week? Deciding this ahead of time will give you a better shot at completing these assignments.
- Comment below and let us know when and where you’re planning to do your homework. Plus, share what you’re excited about learning in this course — and why.
Note for couples: If you share money with someone else, like your spouse, invite them to take this course with you. By working together, you’ll be able to build a solid budget that actually works — for both of you.
That’s it for today! We look forward to seeing you in the next assignment.
Happy budgeting,
-The Goodbudget Team
P.S. If you’re currently experiencing a financial emergency, either from taking a pay cut, receiving a large medical bill, or something else, GB 911: Crash Course might be a better fit. There, you’ll learn how to make quick changes to your budget so that you can survive in the short term, adapt to your financial situation, and thrive down the road.

I’ll do the assignment daily after work.
I plan to complete assignments with my morning coffee, when it’s early and still quiet. I will divvy up assignments and spend 10 or so minutes on by budget daily.
Evenings. Very excited as I love the envelope system.
I plan to do assignments on Tuesdays and Thursdays and weekends. I am excited to learn day by day and to have someone else tell me what to do! Right now I just push forward and do the minimal and ask for help when I’m stuck. I know that GB has a lot more to offer than what I am currently taking advantage of. Thanks!
Will do everyday while kids are at school! yay! lol
I will be doing my budget classes at my dining room table before over a cup of tea before everyone gets up. This is my first budgeting class but I look forward to learning all the tips and tricks. I am a first time budgeting.
I will be doing my assignments before going to work. And really excited about using Goodbudget correctly
I will be doing my assignments on a Sunday, my only day off lol. Really excited about planning ahead so I’m not living paycheck to paycheck and can save some money

at night. Thanks for setting up the course!
I’ll do the assignments every day over coffee
In my bed at night after everyone is asleep.
My budget is living. That means anytime I make a transaction I will use good budget. Before I spend it I check my envelope for that category of spending if I don’t have enough I don’t buy it. It helps me with self control. Good budget has thought me discipline. As far as when I formally balance my check book with good budget? Prior to making a deposit.
I’ll do my assignments in the early morning. I’m excited about doing this with other people.
I’ll be doing my assignments first thing every morning, at the kitchen table, with coffee in hand.
We’ve recently retired and working now on a fixed income, so budgeting is more important than ever.
I will do my lessons mid morning after my exercise and coffee. I will be having surgery on my right shoulder in the middle of the month, so I may have to change my time to make time for Rehab.
Daily in afternoon
I will be doing my homework 2 days a week in the mornings before anyone is up!
I will do the assignments every morning with my coffee. Looking forward to learning more about making & keeping a budget
I’m currently planning to do my assignments during my lunch work break.
I’ll do the planning at my kitchen table in the evenings after dinner. As I get ready to send one of my kiddos to college, I need a new way to plan and budget.
Will try to do it after kids are in bed.
I have recently retired and will be living on a fixed income less than I have been having. This is my first time having a budget and I am looking forward to learning tips and tricks to do it right from the start.
First thing in the morning before my day goes haywire!
I will do this in the evening after dinner
I’ll be doing mine first thing in the morning as I pray for guidance in all my affairs. I’m so glad to have you all as a support team. God bless you all. Danny
My husband and I will be doing this course on Mondays – our date/planning night.
Gonna be mornings, as long as the time is short enough.
I will try in the morning before my work starts or maybe in my break-time during the working day.
I will do this after I teach my online classes in the morning before I go to work.
I will probably do all assignments for the week at one time. I will do them on one of the days I am not working during the week. I have never done a budget before and I am 61 years old! Now that I am retiring and will be living on a limited income, I need this in order to be sure I have enough money for bills, trips, and grandchildren.
Any time I can work it in during my day, but for sure before bed.
I will work in the evenings and at night.
At breakfast time before work
Probably I will work on this in the evening after dinner. I am hopeful to make progress!!
Daily before bed 🙂
Just before bed or maybe lunch hour
I work on this in the evening after my son goes to bed and on the weekends. I am excited to learn more on the envelope system and hopefully it will help me stick with it. I tried it before and struggled. I am really hoping to create a budget that isn’t paycheck to paycheck and help me get out of debt (mainly student loans)
At the table sometime between working 2 jobs and raising my 5 year old granddaughter!!
In the evening. I’m excited to see how much I can save for a car
I will do it daily after work.
i am going to work on it at work
Lunch time for me
Monday’s, Friday’s and saturdays are good days for me to sit down and get budgeting. I am in a lot of debt and I’m working toward resolving it
I plan to complete my assignments during my morning wake and praise &. Nightly inventory
After dinner is a good time for us
It will be doing it late at night or on my off days Tuesdays and Thursday. My partner does like to talk about money. So I know I’m going to have to do on my own.
I’ll be doing the homework after we’ve cleaned up dinner in the evenings!
I’m excited to convert my paper envelope system , which sees tiger really mixed up and unorganized after a few days, into an electronic version with progress bars that I can see clearly everyday even when I am headed to the store .
I’ll do my assignments in the evenings after work. Never really worked to a budget before, so I’m looking forward to it.
I will be doing this Mondays – Friday’s @ 9pm.
